The line defines the spherical pictorial spaces of Anna Maria Brandstätter’s compositions as a parental means of expression. It hatches, condenses and encloses the structures. Mostly floral or botanical elements exist in a non-earthly cosmos, floating together with various objects – often identifiable as planets or other celestial bodies – in gravity-free space. Whether monochrome or with colour contrasts, the works gain energy through the detailed surface design and also tempt the viewer to interact dynamically and pulsate. The primary use of ink is reflected in a rich colourfulness that makes the image content glow and allows for sharp contours.At first glance, Brandstätter’s drawings appear strange, but on closer inspection they repeatedly provide references to the earthly and even the human.
